Membership in ORE
ORE is sustained by organisations committed to a fair publishing ecosystem.
Membership enables researchers to publish in ORE and helps strengthen a community-owned publishing infrastructure designed around openness, quality, and long-term sustainability. Membership is open to non-profit research organisations, including funding agencies, universities, research institutes, libraries, and related organisations.
There are two types of membership:
Country-level membership
Provides publishing eligibility to researchers affiliated with research organisations within a member country, including federal research funding agencies, universities, research centres, university hospitals, and research departments.
See the list of current country-level members here.
Institutional membership
Provides publishing eligibility to researchers funded by, employed by, or affiliated with the member institution.
See the list of current institutional-level members here.
ORE’s costs are shared equitably using a GERD-based model (or GERD-equivalents such as research spend), ensuring contributions are proportional to research capacity.
New memberships
New members are welcome to join ORE at the beginning of each calendar year, following this timeline:
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| September | Organisations interested in joining from the beginning of the next calendar year send a letter of intent to the ORE Secretariat. |
| October | The Funders’ Group revises applications and approves new members. The ORE Secretariat formally informs candidates of the FG’s decision. |
| November | Approved countries or institutions sign the Joinder Agreement. |
| January | ORE communicates publicly about new members and submissions are possible. |
