Geophysics and Soil Science in Archaeology
This collection is related to the development and application of geophysical techniques and soil analytical methodologies to archaeological prospection, site to landscape characterisation, and monitoring. It was initially created for outputs from the COST Action SAGA (CA17131) ‘Soil science & Archaeo-Geophysics Alliance: going beyond prospection’.
The collection encourages the submission of articles exploring the results of studies combining geophysics and soil science with the goal of maximising the interpretation of data for archaeological purposes.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Geophysical methods and soil analyses assessing contrast dynamics behind the detection of buried archaeological features.
- Geophysical methods and soil analyses to identify buried archaeological sites and assess past activity areas and paleoenvironments.
- Integrated approaches for site monitoring, evaluating site preservation, and assessing and managing risk from natural disasters/climate change.
- Experiences in challenging survey environments.
- Country-based overviews.
- Multivariate and interdisciplinary data integration, analysis, and modelling.
