Obesity
Obesity prevalence across the globe is hugely concerning and is now considered a pandemic. In Europe, over 50% of adults are overweight or obese and the rates of children being in the same position is rapidly increasing. Not only is obesity itself a major health concern, but it also leads to further complications within the metabolic system as well as hormonal disruptions, which may further deter physical function. To reduce obesity incidence and mortality, research is sought after to further elucidate the mechanisms, behaviours and treatments associated with this complex disease.
The scope of the collection includes but is not limited to the broad area of obesity, delving deeper into the causes and treatments, as well as associated co-morbidities:
- Causes of obesity (e.g., genetics vs. lifestyle)
- Adolescent/childhood obesity
- Cardio-metabolic health
- Metabolic disorders
- Hormonal control of energy balance
- Obstetrics
- Weight loss treatments (invasive and non-invasive)
- Obesity co-morbidity (i.e., atherosclerosis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, etc.)
- Sedentary behaviours
Open Research Europe requires open access to research data supporting articles under the principle ‘as open as possible, as closed as necessary’. All articles should include citations to repositories that host the data underlying the results, together with any information needed to replicate, validate, and/or reuse the results/your study and analysis of the data. We recognise there may be exceptions due to ethical, data protection, or confidentiality considerations, or because the data have been obtained from a third party and access restrictions apply.
