Perovskites

About Browse

Perovskites are a classification of materials that follow the chemical structure ABX3 , in which “A” and “B” are usually metal atoms whilst X is oxygen. They also have the same crystal structure as calcium titanium oxide (CaTiO3), the naturally occurring mineral that perovskites are named after. These materials have shown promise as low-cost yet efficient components of optoelectronic, photonic and telecommunication devices.

Current research reveals perovskites possess characteristics such as superconductivity, magneto resistance, ionic conductivity, and gathering of dielectric properties which are all important for their inclusion in such applications. The materials have also shown the ability to absorb light at a 1μm (micrometer) thickness at the same rate as conventional solar cells. Different atoms in the perovskite structure can trigger different properties in its final form. The ability for perovskites to display a wide range of behavior makes them materials of interest to chemists, physicists, and material engineers.

This collection aims to collate novel research relating to the development and use of perovskites. Submissions to this collection can be focused on but not limited to:

  • Characterization methods
  • Novel utilization & applications of the material
  • Structure-property studies of perovskites
  • Synthesis of perovskites & development of synthetic methods
