Finding and tracking information on Open Research Europe

At Open Research Europe we provide our readers with a wide variety of content to explore, from the genomics of extant cats to the transcendental linguistics of Friedrich von Hardenberg’s Fichte Studies. However, we also understand the struggles of keeping up to date with the latest research in your area. Therefore, we aim to provide a number of options to ensure you can easily find out about the latest content that is most relevant to you.

There are five main ways you can track content on the Open Research Europe platform.

Gateways

Our gateways provide a dedicated hub for each Horizon 2020 program section. In each gateway, you will find published articles that are linked to projects funded by that particular program section. By clicking the ‘Track’ button, you can ensure you will be alerted via email whenever new content is posted in that gateway, helping to keep you on top of the latest research coming out of that program section. You can manage these alerts via your account.

The current gateways we have are:

  • Enhanced European Innovation Council (EIC) Pilot
  • European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)
  • Excellent Science
  • Focus areas
  • Industrial Leadership
  • Science with and for Society
  • Societal Challenges
  • Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation

Each of these gateways is then broken down further into areas that correspond to the individual funding schemes. For example, the Excellent Science gateway is broken down into European Research Council, Future and Emerging Technologies, Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Actions and Research Infrastructure. Here you can find only articles relating to these initiatives which should help to narrow your search further to find the content that most interests you.

Research Alerts

Even more granular than the gateways, there is also the option to track the progress of each research output published on Open Research Europe using the same ‘Track’ button. Tracking an article will trigger an email alert whenever there is activity on that article, including a new review being posted, public comments being added, or a revised version being published.

There is also a dedicated RSS feed for content that provides users and applications to access article updates in a standardized, computer-readable format.

Browsing options

As well as being alerted when new content is posted, you can also conduct your own searches for relevant material directly on the platform. This can be done across the whole platform or within one of the gateways – whatever makes the most sense for you! There is the option to simply search by keyword or to open the ‘Advanced Search’ tab to apply additional filters to further refine your search. The filters currently available in this tab include:

  • Subject area – follows the Frascati manual research areas
  • Article type – see here for a breakdown of our article types depending on your subject area
  • H2020 project ID
  • H2020 project acronym
  • Funding bodies

You can also choose which aspect of the research output you would like to search (title, abstract, full text) or even search for particular authors. After all these filters there is also a check box in case you would like to limit your search to only include content that has already passed peer review.
