Open Research Europe is accepted for indexing in PubMed Central

We’re delighted to announce that Open Research Europe has been accepted for indexing in PubMed Central (PMC)!

PMC is one of the leading digital archives for biomedical and life science journal literature and is maintained by the US National Library of Medicine, with over eight million full-text records in the archive.

For inclusion in PMC, all publications must meet a stringent set of requirements regarding scientific and editorial quality, and publishers and Platforms must also meet requirements for technical quality and infrastructure.

As a result, this is another major step for Open Research Europe, following indexing in Scopus, ERIH Plus, Inspec, and others last year, and a major milestone in particular for Horizon-funded biomedical and life science researchers.

“Indexing in PMC is a testament to the strength of Open Research Europe.

It not only demonstrates the growing recognition of Open Research Europe as a key publishing venue for the EU research community, but also underlines the quality of research already being published via the Platform.

Building on our acceptance for indexing in several databases last year, including Scopus, this milestone once again validates Open Research Europe as an innovative alternative publishing venue, especially for biomedical and life science authors.”

Kelly Woods, Senior Associate Publisher, F1000

Including Open Research Europe in PMC will significantly increase the credibility and visibility of work published via the Platform, helping researchers reach a greater audience and see a greater potential impact of their work.

Over the coming months, all articles that pass peer review on Open Research Europe, as well as those that have passed peer review historically, will be included in PMC and readers will be able to see Open Research Europe’s information page in PMC within the month.

“PubMed has established itself over the years as a trustworthy ally to countless researchers worldwide.

By indexing our publishing platform, it not only acknowledges the high standards we apply at Open Research Europe but also reinforces the idea that adhering to Open Science principles is the path forward.

We are excited to continue expanding Open Research Europe and establish it as the go-to destination for transparent publishing and accessing top-quality research.”

Michael Arentoft, Head of Open Science Unit, Directorate-General for Research & Innovation, European Commission

We would like to thank our Scientific Advisory Board members, Community Gateway Advisors, Collection Advisors, authors, reviewers, and readers for their support and contributions since the Platform launched in March 2021, helping Open Research Europe to grow into the established publishing venue it is today.
