Open Research Europe (ORE) is evolving. From autumn 2026, the platform will transition to a new operational model under the leadership of CERN, building on the strong foundation established by the European Commission since its launch in 2021. This evolution marks an important step in ensuring ORE’s long-term sustainability while preserving its core mission: providing a trusted, open-access publishing venue for high-quality research.
What does the transition mean for ORE’s visual identity?
When ORE launched in 2021 as the European Commission’s open-access publishing platform, its visual identity was designed to reflect its core values: transparency, accessibility, and innovation in scholarly communication.
As part of the transition to its next phase, ORE’s visual identity is evolving. A new logo and a refreshed ORE web platform are being introduced, designed to reflect CERN’s role in leading ORE’s future development and the new funders supporting the project.
Designed with openness in mind
The updated Open Research Europe logo brings together the three core ideas behind the platform:
Open – expressed through a circular, rounded form that conveys transparency, continuity, and accessibility.
Research – symbolised as vision, represented by a central eye-like structure that reflects clarity, focus, and forward-looking knowledge.
Europe – captured through a sense of unity in diversity, where the whole is made of distinct but connected parts, echoing collaboration across countries and disciplines.
The resulting mark is a rounded symbol of vision, fragmented into sections, with typography designed to align with the geometry of a circle. Together, these elements form a visual identity that embodies openness, insight, and collective progress.

New look, same service
These visual updates will not affect the platform’s content, policies, or submission processes. All existing articles and associated data will remain accessible through the same DOI links, ensuring continuity of citations, discoverability, and access.
We will keep you informed throughout the transition to ensure a seamless experience for researchers, authors, reviewers, and readers. We encourage our community to stay informed by visiting the ORE website regularly for updates and announcements. If you have any questions about the transition, the platform, or your publications, the ORE team remains available to assist you.
