Evolution and Ecology

About Browse

Evolution studies the processes that generated biological diversity on Earth, whereas Ecology investigates the relationships between living organisms and the environment they live in. These two disciplines come together when researchers inquire how organisms adapt to their changing environmental conditions.

Potential topics include but are not limited to:

- Evolutionary genetics and genomics: How genetic variation leads to evolutionary change? How genetic traits and genome dynamics generate biodiversity? How to link genotypes and phenotypes between individuals and species?

- Evolutionary ecology: How relationships between different organisms, and organisms and their environment have changed through time? How organisms adapted to these environmental alterations?

- Biodiversity evolution: How is biological diversity distributed? How taxa evolve at the level of genes, species, and ecosystems? How new species form and others disappear?

Behavioural Ecology: How do organisms interact and react to their environment, and how these changes appear and are maintained throughout time?

The answers to these questions will help us to gather further insight into the tree of life.
